about

This CD was recorded at Fry Pharmacy Studio. We were surrounded by historic equipment, old school LP's, and a retro atmosphere you can catch a whiff of when you listen. The tracks were recorded both on analog tape and on digital programs to find the right recipe for that Western Rebel Sound. All that with a Wyoming state flag hanging on the wall to remind us that we remain Forever West...

Track Name: Smithereens
Ready, aim, fire
She’s such a liar
When she says she doesn’t know the way to
Blow my heart to smithereens
Burnin’ through those tight blue jeans
She’ll blow us all to smithereens tonight

Well I can tell
She’ll raise some hell
And run the devil round that ol’ dance floor and
Blow him back to smithereens
Beat him at his brand of mean
She’ll blow us all to smithereens tonight

She’s a kerosene cocktail that flies through the air
A bust on the back with an old wooden chair
No man can endure what’s a hell of a beautiful dare

Think you’re the one?
Well, go have your fun
Go take your turn she’ll turn you upside down and
Blow you back to smithereens
A honky-tonkin’ heartache queen
She’ll blow us all to smithereens tonight
Track Name: Sideways Clear Up There
Wilbur flew an aeroplane, bicycle and wings
Took four men to push him to get him up to speed
Flew as high as half the trees but wound up in the weeds
People talked up Wilbur for years and years it seems
That was a hundred years ago

Billy drove his GTO up and down the road
Enough testosterone and gas to flame up and explode
Spun the wheel until the rear suspension couldn’t hold
Billy and his Pontiac’s another story told
From nineteen seventy-four

About being sideways clear up there
Numb enough not to give a damn, dumb enough to dare
Peace and love and quiet never get a second stare
Like livin’ on a limb, sideways clear up there

Jerry broke his collarbone fightin’ with a bull
Lucky people didn’t see that mush inside his skull
Rosie must be crazy for loving him to death
Lots of women wish they still had something like him left
That was last fourth of july

When he was Sideways clear up there
Numb enough not to give a damn, dumb enough to dare
Peace and love and quiet never get a second stare
Like livin’ on a limb sideways clear up there

Crazy like you, crazy like me
Out on the edge of town where street and highway meet
Don’t need credentials, just need to be a little
Certifiable

Numb enough not to give a damn, dumb enough to dare
Peace and love and quiet never get a second stare
Like livin’ on a limb, sideways clear up there
Yeah, we’re all on a limb, sideways clear up there

I beat up an old guitar just to make it sing
Track Name: Shadow In The Night
Every time your heart breaks
The darkest hours find you here
Burned out by another mister right
Like I’m just your shadow in the night

You’ve learned another lesson
You say it’s hard to be alone
You forget I’ve known lonely all my life
Like I’m just your shadow in the night

I know I’m the guy that brings you back from all the others
Just a friend, a place for you to hide

You don’t have to tell me
I can see it when we say goodbye
I want you more than you want to recognize
Like I’m just your shadow in the night

I know I’m the guy that brings you back from all the others
Just a friend, a place for you to hide

For me there’s no tomorrow so I’ll help you right up to the dawn
Then watch you go as I fade into the light
Like I’m just your shadow in the night
I’m just your shadow…
Track Name: Fourteen Hours
A CDL ain’t nothin’ if no one needs the goods
A workin’ man ain’t much at all not workin’ like he should
Home was nice and easy, but no one there would pay
Life will come down hard if you don’t find another way

So I set out for fortune in the North Dakota buttes
Took a shack in Sidney with a hundred mile commute
Cracks across the windshield, not much sleep between my pay
Pulling down the overtime on a fourteen hour day

Fourteen hours, tearin’ pavement, clutchin’ coffee, and shifting gears
Hope will linger and fade the same just like fourteen hours
Fourteen hours

My girl’s in Cincinnati, she likes to say we’re strong
She knows we need the money, but she bitches that I’m gone
I just let her talk it out ‘cuz she’s real sure of things
It’s hard to think I’m driving to be tied down by a ring

Fourteen hours, watchin’ movies of my life while the road rolls by
I fight regret with the lies I tell me for fourteen hours
Fourteen hours

Fourteen hours of Copenhagen, country music, and cigarettes
Life ‘ll lick you if you let for fourteen hours…

Fourteen hours, tearin’ pavement, clutchin’ coffee, and shifting gears
Hope will linger and fade the same just like fourteen hours,
Fourteen hours
Track Name: I Just Want You
I don’t want promises of life long commitment
I don’t want jealousy or stone-cold resentment
I don’t want someone to hang around,
I just want you, I just want you

I want the way you walk to drive me wild
I want the way you talk to un-cramp my style, baby
I want the way you touch to burn me down,
I just want you, I just want you

Well, I’ve had a love in the stars
Every single twinkle burnin’ out
But when it comes to love that’s built to last
I’ll hang back in the shadow of my doubts

I’ll leave forever, take one kiss at a time
You keep your heart and, baby, I’ll keep what’s mine
I’ll take your talking as a come on sign
I just want you, I just want you
Track Name: This Time
This time, it’s gonna be a little harder to hurt my heart
This time, I won’t wear that shade of blue
I’ve left those lonely tears behind
I’ll find a heart a lot like mine, ‘cuz
This time, I won’t fall in love with you

Last time, you almost got away with murder when you broke my heart
Last time, I forgave you of your sins
I was young and so naïve
I really wanted to believe
But this time, I won’t fall for that again

I finally learned the love you gave was just a little game
The only way for me to win was to turn and walk away

Sometime, you’re gonna wonder how I’m making it without you
Sometime, when you’re lying all alone
When you beg me to take you back
Honey, I’ll just have to laugh, ‘cuz
This time, I can make it on my own
Yeah, this time, I can make it on my own
Track Name: El Camino
You ask do you want to marry me
Or am I waiting round for nothin’?”
You don’t want to marry me
‘Cuz I’d just turn into what your

Mom and daddy warned you of
A push that turns into a shove
You’d get the lawyers Christmas card
And I’d get the El Camino

I know you want the fantasy
Like your friends we saw last summer
I’m not like those guys in tuxes
Well-respected up-and-comers

I’d prob’ly only up and quit
Each time we both got into it
You’d finally get the nerve to leave
And I’d get the El Camino

You’re such a lovely lady
And I’m just helpless maybe
Someday who might get around to
Fin’ly shifting into higher gear

You’ll thank me when you find the one
And I’m still out here on the run
So keep your dreams and dig – ni – ty
And I’ll keep the El Camino

Yeah, be the girl you ought to be
And I’ll be that El Camino YEAH!
Track Name: Marguerita
South of the border in a Mexicantina
At our old corner table, I wait there to meet her
The chips are all down, the money’s all gone
One final round, then I’m moving on

Margue – ri, Marguerita
Margue – ri, Marguerita

The Rio Grande sun sets in my mind
On that sweet Spanish angel I’m leaving behind
She quenched my thirst like sangria wine
Oh, how I long for a taste of those times

Margue – ri, Marguerita
Margue – ri, Marguerita

Bitter, then sweet are those memories
They’re all that I have and I’ll take them with me
The love that we shared was not meant to be
I’ll be alone when I leave, but she’ll always be in my

Track Name: Honky Tonk
Honky tonk, don’t take me in and tear me up tonight
Leave me to my loneliness don’t lead me on with lies
Don’t you fill me full of hope then fool me in the end
Honky tonk, don’t you break my heart again

You always have a barstool to ease my troubled mind
But trouble always finds me there and she asks me for a light
Sometimes I’ve got to wonder if you really are my friend
Honky tonk, don’t you break my heart again

Honky tonk, don’t take me in and tear me up tonight
Leave me to my loneliness don’t lead me on with lies
Don’t you fill me full of hope then fool me in the end
Honky tonk, don’t you break my heart again

Shootin’ pool then like a fool I’m watchin’ her walk by I’m
Hoping she don’t notice me from the corner of her eye
The music’s loud, the beer is cold, she’s getting to my head

Honky tonk, don’t you break my heart again
